Labor protection rules updated in Belarus

On September 21, 2021, the Labor Protection Rules, approved by the decree of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus No. 53 dated July 1, 2021, came into force. The previous edition of Labor Protection Rules is dated June 3, 2003.

The rules on labor protection are aimed at ensuring healthy and safe working conditions for workers in the process of labor activity. The rules, as before, apply to employers regardless of their organizational and legal forms and forms of ownership.

The rules adjust the obligations of employers to ensure safe working conditions, provided for by the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated June 23, 2008 No. 356-З "On labor protection". For the first time, the Rules provide for the possibility of processing and maintaining labor protection documents in electronic form.

The rules establish requirements for the organization of work on labor protection; territory, buildings, structures and premises of the organization; sanitary and household services for workers; heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; production processes and performance of work with increased danger; organization of workplaces and other requirements.

The rules also stipulate several forms of documentation that employers need to maintain in order to be compliant. If you are starting a business in Belarus or already operating one, it´s worth considering the labor protection rules and how to comply with them.

The rules are enforced by the Labor Protection Authority, which may conduct audits of organizations in case they are made aware of potential violations.
