Minimum wage in Belarus

The current minimum wage in Belarus according to the law is 400 BYN or approximately 135 euro per month. The minimum wage is set every year by the government, and the current minimum is in place since 1st of January 2021. The minimum wage for 2022 will be published in time for it to take effect since 1st of January, 2022.  Usually the minimum wages are also indexed to economic indicators, but this year they are not.

Some figures for minimum wages from previous years include 375 BYN in 2020, 330 BYN in 2019, 305 BYN in 2018 and 265 BYN in 2017. On the other hand, the average wages vary significantly between different regions and cities. The average salary in Minsk is about 1000 BYN, while in the regional cities it settles around 650 BYN per month. Outside of cities, in the regions, it´s common to pay employees the legal minimum wages.

Foreign companies as well as IT firms generally have a competitive advantage in the labor market, as they can offer their employees salaries which are fixed in EUR or USD. Salaries especially in the IT sector can be quite high. Fresh employees in the IT sector usually start their careers with salaries around 300 – 500 USD, but are able to earn significantly higher salaries quickly. Middle and junior developers who have proved themselves are able to earn anywhere between 1500 – 3000 USD per month after a couple of years of career advancement.
