What should be known for a EU citizen spending more than 3 months in Lithuania?

We notice that not all citizens of the EU Member States, spending more than 3 months in Lithuania, know that they can freely enter Lithuania and be here for up to 3 months from the first day of arrival. However, if the citizens of the EU Member States intend to stay or have already spent in Lithuania more than 3 months during 6 months period, they should apply to the Migration Department for the issuing of the certificate confirming the right of temporary residence in Lithuania and to declare the residence address in Lithuania.

Thus, the certificate confirming the right of temporary residence in Lithuania is issued to a citizen of the EU Member State if he/she spends more than 3 months and at least one condition listed below is met.

A certificate shall be issued to a citizen of the EU Member State if he/she is:

·       an employee or self – employed person in Lithuania or,

·       has sufficient resources to live in Lithuania and a valid health insurance document or,

·       is accepted for study, traineeship, qualification development and has sufficient resources to live in Lithuania and a valid health insurance document or,

·       is a family member of the above-mentioned citizen of EU Member State, who comes with him/her.

It is important to mention that the application for the certificate confirming the right of temporary residence in Lithuania is submitted in person through the Lithuanian Migration Information System MIGRIS ( https://www.migracija.lt//app/auth/login ). After submission of the application through MIGRIS, the person has personally come to the branch of the Migration Department and submit the original documents, biometric data, sign the application. When the certificate confirming the right of temporary residence in Lithuania is issued, the person has to declare his/her residence address in Lithuania.
