Especially when the representatives of the branches and subsidiaries in Lithuania are not Lithuanian citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a potential solution to this issue, the possibility to become an&nbsp;<strong>e-resident<\/strong>&nbsp;in Lithuania was &nbsp;<strong>introduced in 2021, with applications becoming available in practice from mid 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">E-residency in Lithuania: purpose and possibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of\u202f<strong>e-residency<\/strong>\u202fis to enable foreign citizens to access the administrative, public, or commercial services provided in the Republic of Lithuania electronically (remotely).\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the continuing interest of foreign businesses and individuals in the e\u2011resident status, we provide below an overview of the currently available possibilities and future development directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>At present, an e-resident of Lithuania may:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in to the\u202f<strong>Electronic Government Gateway<\/strong>\u202f(English language at home page is available);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log in to the\u202f<strong>Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS)<\/strong>\u202fthrough the Electronic Government\u00a0Gateway;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sign documents by a qualified e-signature<\/strong>\u202fin the Electronic Government Gateway portal or by other means.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Register a new private limited liability company (UAB) or a branch of a foreign company, subject to applicable legal and procedural requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering the above-mentioned options, it would be safe to assume that although e-resident status simplifies some steps for foreign\u00a0persons, but certain limitations remain and not all electronic public or commercial services are fully accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Current limitations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>E-residency currently may still not grant access to all electronic self-service systems and language barriers may occur in some cases (i.e.&nbsp;the self-service system of the Register Center is only available in Lithuanian language for certain services like the information system of beneficiaries of legal entities (JANGIS)).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the list of services provided by the Lithuanian Register Center currently <strong>allow e-residents to perform the following actions<\/strong> (<strong>the eresident\u2011 card must be activated and prepared for use with a downloaded and installed software)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To provide data on the participants (shareholders, beneficiaries) of the legal\u00a0entities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0register\u00a0a new private liability company or branch of a foreign\u00a0company;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0submit\u00a0changes to personal data and documents of a registered private limited liability company or branch of a foreign\u00a0company;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To order a paper extract of the legal entity from the\u00a0register;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To\u00a0acquire\u00a0a current extract of shareholders or\u00a0beneficiaries;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To order digital\/paper extracts from shareholders\u2019 and beneficiaries\u2019 registers of a legal\u00a0entity;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Obtaining the Lithuanian e-resident status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be noted that the\u202f<strong>application for Lithuanian e-residency<\/strong>\u202fhas to&nbsp;be&nbsp;submitted&nbsp;through a self-service system of the Lithuanian Migration Department (hereinafter \u2013 MIGRIS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A person should fill in an application for granting the status of an electronic resident of the Republic of Lithuania through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) and&nbsp;submit&nbsp;it to the Migration Department through the following link:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.migracija.lt\/app\/auth\/login\">https:\/\/www.migracija.lt\/app\/auth\/login<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The instructions can be found in the video below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe data-cookieconsent=\"marketing\" title=\"MIGRIS. How to fill application for e-resident?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-cookieblock-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nEeNV3BI3lM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><div class=\"cookieconsent-optout-marketing\">\n            Please <a href=\"javascript:Cookiebot.renew()\">accept marketing-cookies<\/a> to watch this video.\n        <\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After filling in the application through MIGRIS the foreigner shall appear in person at the chosen external service provider (indicated&nbsp;in the MIGRIS page) or the Migration Department within 4 months from the day of filling in the application through MIGRIS and&nbsp;submit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A valid travel document that\u00a0complies with\u00a0the requirements for identification\u00a0established\u00a0in the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing of the Republic of\u00a0Lithuania;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A document granting the right to be or stay in the Republic of Lithuania when the application is\u00a0submitted\u00a0in the Republic of Lithuania by a foreigner who is excluded from the visa-free\u00a0regime;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biometric data for identity verification (facial image and fingerprints of two fingers).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain service fees may apply in the process as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The status of an electronic resident may not be granted to a foreigner if:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Another Schengen state has entered an alert in the central second-generation Schengen Information System for refusal of entry concerning the\u00a0foreigner;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The foreigner is included in the national list of foreigners prohibited from entering the Republic of Lithuania.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the decision to grant e-resident status is made, a foreigner will be granted the\u202f<strong>status of an e-resident for 3 years<\/strong>. An electronic identification and electronic signature means will be issued as well for a new e-resident which will&nbsp;allow using&nbsp;all the services applicable to the e-resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the decision to grant e-resident status is made, a foreigner will be granted the\u202f<strong>status of an e-resident for 3 years<\/strong>.
