Right now there are two corporate tax rates in Hungary: 10% if the EBT (earnings before taxes) is up to 500 million HUF (ca 1,6 million EUR), and 19% if the EBT is higher than that. From 2017, a general tax rate of 9% will apply to all companies, a move that is believed to stimulate higher profits and also attract more foreign companies to start business in Hungary. The 9% corporate tax is the lowest in EU: e.g. in Austria it’s 25%, Slovakia 22%, Croatia 20%, Slovenia 17% and in Romania 16%.
