Across-the-board minimum wage in Germany

From the beginning of the year Germany’s new measure has required a truck driver to be paid an hourly 8.50 euros gross. German minimum wage, which could defer form the wage paid in the driver’s home country, is applicable from the moment the driver crosses the German border to the moment he leaves Germany. The driver’s employer also face administrative paperwork under the measure, and a fine of 30 000 EUR if the drivers are not paid accordingly. The suspension applies only for transit journeys. It is expected a decision by Brussels between April and June if Germany was violating European Union rules by applying an across-the-board minimum wage.
